Boggle Time

We LOVE Boggle! This experience has given us a great opportunity to find words that may not be written in traditional form. We can snake all around the board and create words that are linked together. Our 2nd grade Quest kids grouped up and worked together to come up with as many words as possible. Our boggle board changes out weekly, so there is always something new. They love scoring themselves to see if they can beat their previous score.

A Day at the Wax Museum

Our class has been learning about “Influential People of the Past.” Each student chose a special person of interest to research. The students used their research findings to put together a slideshow presentation that they would present to their families here at school. The students dressed the part that represented their person of the past. We had a wonderful time at the museum and every student did an outstanding job. We have learned so much throughout this amazing unit of study. Thank you to everyone who supported and encouraged us. It was a great success! Here are a few pictures from our Museum.

Brain Station LIVE

Each week our 2nd grade Quest students participate in beneficial brain activities that allow them to become better problem solvers, communicators, risk takers, and the list goes on. There are so many awesome things about this time we spend on brain station LIVE. Here are a few pictures & descriptions of our favorite brain games.

Pattern Play
These colorful block patterns really ignite the mind and allow students to become risk takers and super problem solvers. This is truly an addictive activity among our class!

Square Up

We love square up because we get to choose the solution to our problem. Students shake the cube box and set off to slide colored tiles all around until they match the pattern on the board to the pattern in the shaker box. Lots of fun ways to ignite our little minds.

Chocolate Fix

Everyone loves a little sweet treat, but this sweet logic game is even better. Students use cards with small clues to set up their board. From there, you must use your brain skills to place the other chocolate pieces into the correct slot to defeat each level. I will say, "This sweet logic experience really works up an appetite!"

Morse Code

January 11th is national "Morse Code Day." We celebrated this day by learning about Samuel F.B. Morse. Morse create the telegraph, and along with a few other men, created Morse code. Students learned what this was and how much harder it was to communicate during the 1800's than it is today. Quest students were given a Morse code chart and were able to write their own name and create a message for a friend to decode in class. We all had a fun time.

Pick Me Up - Team Challenge

Our Quest classes are excited to start 2016 off together using team work to build on skills. We participated in an activity where each group member held a string attached to one rubber band. Each member was responsible for helping to move the cups from the three tier pyramid into one stack of cups. They could only move the cups with the rubber band and strings. It took much communication and positive efforts to make this task successful in the end. Good job boys and girls!

Geo Brain Stations

Here are some of the fun ways our Quest kids are learning about the different places around the world. We have truly enjoyed this journey and are not done yet. We love receiving our postcards and mail that help us learn about the U.S.A. and other great places in the world. Thanks to everyone who is helping make this possible for us.

Kids Around the World is a cool, hands on game that teaches us neat facts, music, and counting from all other countries.

Treasure Hunt is an online activity that teaches us how to use longitude and latitude to find the hidden treasure. This is super fun for all ages!

Atlas Facts allows kids to explore the different states and find facts that they didn't already know. Geography is so amazing!

Postcard Project!!

We have had the most fun receiving all of our fabulous postcards from places all over the world. Our friends are family are AWESOME! Without the help and support of you, we wouldn't know about all of the neat places people live and have visited. We are still receiving postcards daily, and the students get so so excited when new ones come in. We chart each location on our state and world map in the classroom. The students also have several maps of their own that we track and pinpoint on as well. I think we can all say that this unit of study has made us want to travel the world and has opened our eyes to how big this planet really is. So, in the words of Dr. Seuss, "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"
