Compose Yourself
Students have enjoyed being music composers. Compose Yourself is a great experience for kids and gives them the opportunity to learn how to create music. Each student selected several cards with music notes. They put the cards in the desired order and plugged the information into the computer. From there, Students were able to publish and share their songs with friends and family. Here are some pictures to show what it looked like.

To Infinity…. & Beyond!

Our 2nd Grade Quest students had a blast at the Infinity Science Center at Stennis Space Center. This trip was a culminating experience that allowed the students to explore and witness all of the amazing things we learned in the classroom during our Mission Space Study, and bring it to life. We talked to scientists and astronauts who work with NASA and could answer many questions. We had a wonderful time making lasting memories.

Students have been working hard at home and bringing in some awesome space projects. Here are a some pictures of these amazing works of art!! A big "THANKS" goes out to all of the fabulous families who helped make this possible.

3-2-1 Blast off!!

Students in Mrs. Holly Johnson’s Quest classes have been studying about the stars, planets, and awesome things that make up our solar system. We were able to experience incredible views of the Moon, Mars and Saturn. The students and their parents were in awe of the amazing views we had of these places. Being able to see Saturn’s rings was absolutely magnificent. We want to give a big thanks to Dr. John Grant and Bill Nix for making this possible.

Awesome Orbits!!!

Upon learning about how the Sun, Earth, and Moon work together, the 2nd grade Quest classes created a replica of how it all works. They are excited to know what orbits, rotations, and revolutions are and how they keep our world turning.

Invitation to Mission Space

Students received their official letters today inviting them to our Quest Space Academy that will be held in class for the next month. We are so excited to begin this unit of study. Throughout this study, we will learn all about space exploration, information about each planet, conduct hands on activities, and research questions about space that we've wondered about. Here is a picture of some excited students as they received their letters.

PLE Quest is Buzzing into a New School Year!

Our new group of 2nd grade Quest students are excited about all of the new things we will be doing in class this year. We have started off the new year with a team building S.T.E.M. activity that allowed the students to work collaboratively and decide on a strategy that would help save Fred from drowning. Communication skills were a must in this experiment, and everyone played an important role in this task. The students really enjoyed this activity and felt successful once Fred was safely inside his life vest.

A Day @ the ZOO

We had such a wonderful day at the Hattiesburg Zoo. The students were able to experience so much. We were able to feel and touch some live animals close up and hear all about what it is like to be a zookeeper. Our train ride was a nice experience as we were able to ride past many different African Safari animals. We all enjoyed seeing the big tigers roaming around their designated area, and watching to see what the alligators would do next. Thanks to all of the teachers and parents who helped make this trip possible.

Zooland Presentations

Today was an exciting day for our 2nd grade Quest class. We have been working extremely hard to learn all there is about the zoo animals in order to prove to the mayor and city council members that we can keep the zoo doors open. After several weeks of researching and putting together presentation slides, the students presented to our town Mayor, Mr. Brad Necaise, and City Council members, Mr. Glenn Bolin, Ms. Maggie Smith, and Ms. Shirley Whiltshire. After some debate and questioning of the students, it was decided that we can keep Zooland alive. The kids are so excited!! We are looking forward to our field trip to the Hattiesburg Zoo!

Saving Zooland

2nd grade Quest students have been working hard to save Zooland. Zooland is a simulation project where our local zoo is about to close its doors and sell all of the animals unless the students can learn enough information to keep the zoo alive. The town Mayor and City Council members will be the ones who decide if the zoo will remain open. Here are a few pictures of the students' hard work.

Boggle Time

We LOVE Boggle! This experience has given us a great opportunity to find words that may not be written in traditional form. We can snake all around the board and create words that are linked together. Our 2nd grade Quest kids grouped up and worked together to come up with as many words as possible. Our boggle board changes out weekly, so there is always something new. They love scoring themselves to see if they can beat their previous score.
